We get it. Joining something new comes with questions. Here are some answers! |
Generally, membership is open to those who have lived in La Jolla for less than three years. When life changes, though, we try to make exceptions (retirement/family status/similar). Our Membership Team will discuss your circumstances with you.
Yes; afraid this is true. We do a lot of fun things and are 100% volunteer-powered. This is the primary way we manage the size of our Club so it's fun for our Members.
The majority of our events and activities are only open to Members. If you are a Member and you can't view the full Calendar, make sure you are logged in with your email address on file. If you are not yet a Member, you can click Join Us to submit an application.
Our Board meets to review progress against Annual Budget and set Dues for the coming year each April. Currently, our Annual Dues are $50 per Member, per year. We do not currently charge any initiation fee to new members.
The Board creates a Budget and votes on how to allocate Annual Dues each year. Generally, collected dues are used to cover the cost of accounting and payment processing (20%); insurance (15%); technology (like this website) and office supplies (25%); and to make charitable contributions, subsidize parties and host events without cost for our newest members (40%).
It does sound like a misnomer! Our Club is focused on welcoming those who are new to our area and helping them to make friends. While we do have Members who have been with the Club for decades (yes, really), they joined when they were new to La Jolla, and now are "paying it forward" by sharing their interests, talents and knowledge with new neighbors.
